Camera Bodies & Lenses
Nikon D610 - A full framed professional grade 24.3 megapixel camera capable of shooting at 6 frames per second and recording 1080p video. External pro-body style grip also available (see below).
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR - A 24mm to 120mm all around lens for FX camera body users with a fixed f/4 aperture. Great for shooting everyday shots as well as landscape photography. At 120mm it also provides to good macro shots if you don’t have a dedicated macro lens. This lens is almost always on my camera when I’m not using another lens for a more specific shot.
Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR - A 200mm to 500mm telephoto lens for FX camera body users with a fixes f/5.6 aperture. Prime telephoto lens are crazy expensive and this fills the void for a reasonably priced lens that still delivers quality imagery. Plus, it’s a lot lighter to carry into the field than your longer and heavier prime lenses. For the everyday hobbyist and professional alike, it provides a nice addition to your lens inventory.
MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack & Grip (for Nikon D610) - A multi-battery power pack capable of using either a single D610 battery or 6-AA batteries in the battery holder. So if you already have a D610, your existing rechargeable Nikon batteries should work in this batter pack. Can be used with just one Nikon rechargeable battery in the grip or can be used in conjunction with the Nikon rechargeable battery in the camera body to get longer shooting life. A great option if you shot a lot of portrait format shots and need the additional shutter and dial controls in the portrait position. When used with just the battery in the grip and no battery in the camera, I don’t find that it adds too much additional weight to the camera. My only dislike is that the AE-L/AF-L button is a bit too recessed compared to the same button on the back of the D610 and the control stick isn’t as easy to use as the one on the back of the D610. The control dials are comparable in their fluid motion like those of the D610 body.
Bags & Lense Cases
Think Tank Naked Shape Shifter 17 V2.0 - This is the best all around every-day backpack that I’ve ever owned. I can expand it when I need to carry my camera equipment with me, or collapse the camera equipment compartment when I’m just traveling with my laptop. The main camera compartment works with Think Tank’s Changer products so that you can carry various camera bodies and lenses. The main compartment opens fully making access to the Changer pouches easy when going through airport security.

When shooting outdoor events or in the field where space is limited and I cannot carry my backpack (e.g. on a small boat), I need to be on the move and carry my equipment with me that I can get to easily.
Filters & Filter Storage
Breakthrough Photography X4 UV Filter - I use this filter on all my lenses. Not only to protect my lenses but it provides excellent resolution. The full traction texture around the entire circumference makes it easy to install/remove the filter whether you have gloves on or not. It’s slim design doesn’t produce any vignetting on the lenses I use.
Breakthrough Photography X4 CPL Polarizing Filter - Provides neutral color on those bright sunny days when you need a polarizer.
Think Tank Filter Nest - Really nice compact and versatile filter holder. Great for holding circular filters with the removable insert, or you can hold 150mmx100mm rectangular filters. Attachment options include connecting to your belt or backpack webbing rail, or you can easily hang from your tripod using the small adjustable strap.
LEE Filter System - The LEE Filter Systems allows you to insert rectangular filters into a bracket (foundation kit) that attaches to the front of your lens. You can insert any of the filters below depending upon what you are wanting to shoot.
LEE Filters 77mm Wide-Angle Lens Adapter Ring for 100mm System Filter Holder - For use with my Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR
LEE Filters 100 x 100mm Big Stopper 3.0 Neutral Density Filter - A must for those long exposures.
Tripod, Monopods, and Accessories
Manfrotto 190 Aluminium 3-Section Tripod - A solid tripod and capable of even handling a gamble and larger lease like the 200-500 f/5.6. Detachable tripod head allows for easy installation of another head or gamble.
Vanguard VEO 2 235CB Carbon Tripod - Very portable and lightweight, but still sturdy enough to support a pro-body style camera and a mid-range zoom lens. Folds down into a nice compact format for easy transport. The options adaptor allows you to replace the center column to get those low angle macro shots at ground level.
Manfrotto XPRO Five-Section Aluminum Photo Monopod - Good stability for large lenses, and a must if shooting in tight spaces where you need stability and support.
Jobu Design Heavy Duty MK IV Gimble - For use with larger telephoto lenses when you need more of a fluid and evenly weighted setup for panning and fluid movement. Works well with my Manfrotto 190 tripod.
Kirk BL-D600G L-Bracket for Nikon D600/D610 with MB-D14 Battery Pack - A compact and lightweight L-bracket that is designed to snugly fit the Nikon D600/DD610 cameras. Machined from one single piece of industrial strength aluminum, and provides access to all switches, sockets, and the battery drawer of the MB-D14 Multi Batter Power Pack & Grip. The bracket is designed for use with Arca style tripod mounts, and allows for easy mounting of your camera in horizontal or vertical orientations. It also has a nice accessory mount for a hand strap.
LensCoat LensSack Pro Jr Beanbag Support - Great for taking shots with a telephoto lens where you may not be able to setup a tripod but need some sort of padded support. I have used this on the hood of my car to rest the telephoto lens and placed over the side of my door. Doesn’t come with any filler, but a couple of bags of uncooked beans do the trick to provide the ‘bean bag’ support you need.
Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Hand Strap - Nice hand strap that stays snug and doesn’t come loose. The optional fastening strap ensures your camera stays security in your hand.
Peak Design SLIDE Neck Strap - Neck straps seem like they are so yesterday technology, but Peak Design has done a nice job of re-inventing the neck strap to make it both a neck strap and a cross-body sling. Their dual-sided design also makes for a nice option to choose between a strap that grips your closing or moves smoothly across it. The locking bucket also make for each adjustments. Finally, the Anchor Connectors allow for each detachment, but still lock I place and support the weight of the camera.
Think Tank Camera Support Straps V2.0 - Great way to carry your camera body on your backpack. The clips are very versatile in that you can use with the Think Tank Camera Strap V2.0 or any other camera strap that has loops or rings. The clasps fasten easily to your backpack or harness shoulder pad webbing.
ME-1 Stereo Microphone - For videography this is a nice addition to the D610 setup to help reduce wind noise and capture higher quality audio in your videos.
MC-DC2 Remote Release Cord (1 meter) - I like to keep my equipment simple. This wired remote release gives me what I need to take longer exposure shots and it just works. I have tried other brands and models that were more complex with digital displays and programming capabilities, but they didn’t seem to last after hours of use in the field where you are exposed to heat, cold, wet, or dusty environments. The price point is also good, so if you wear it out, it isn’t too hard on you pocketbook to either carry a spare or buy a new one.
