'One Footed Egret'

Look closely at this Great Egret's rear leg. See anything missing? Yep, it's short a foot. Why? Hard to say, but most likely due to either having become entangled, a predator, or just an injury. Egrets have a wide variety in their diets, and are skillful hunters. This one still seemed to get around fishing on the waters edge just fine.

Masai Giraffe

Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus)

The Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus) can be found throughout the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. They can live for up to 50 years, and a female's gestation period is 18-22 months. They are considered an Endangered Species with humans being their primary predator, seeking their ivory tusks to make jewelery and other artifacts as well as use in traditional medicine treatments.

The Green Heron (Butorides virescens) is a small heron found in North and Central America. They are commonly seen along the waters edge, standing very still, stalking unsuspecting prey beneath the surface. They have a wide variety in their diet ranging from small fish, amphibians, and insects. Even small snakes and lizards are fair game. Like most herons, they are an intersting species to watch as they move slowly and methodically to position themselves to catch their prey.
