Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) fly in formation along a Texas Gulf Coast Beach. Once endangered, their numbers have rebounded thanks to reductions in pesticides and protection under the US Endangered Species Act from 1970 to 2009. They are the national bird of Saint Martin, Barbados, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the official state bird of Louisiana.
